Action and Updates

JUNE 26th, 2021  GES Coalition celebrates the release of a new community research tool and report, titled, "We Decide The Future: Turning Equitable Development Upside Down."

The community report will be released on Saturday, June 26th as an online tool for neighbors organizing against Denver's disruptive legacy of displacing communities of color. The community action and celebration will call for land reparations, and will feature Indigenous dance groups, a land blessing, community visioning from neighborhood leaders, youth poetry, and neighborhood food.

As part of the release of "We Decide The Future", GES Coalition will also release an additional publication, "Reclaiming Our Land: GES Community Plan for the Triangle," a call for the City of Denver and the National Western Authority to put more than 45 acres of public land at National Western Center back into community hands. Under pressure, Mayor Hancock cancelled extractive plans in February 2021, leaving no existing plan for the future of this key public land.

To further develop "Reclaiming Our Land" GES Coalition has retained nationally celebrated urban design firm HECTOR, winner of the MacArthur Fellowship. Over Summer 2021, GES Coalition has partnered with HECTOR and a team of local planners to complete a detailed plan for the Triangle. This plan will be used to make the case  for the land of the Triangle to be dedicated to development controlled by the community.

GES Coalition invites Denver city government & other decision makers to let go of expensive and wasteful P3s (public-private partnerships) that do not bring value to 9 out of 10 of Denver's households. Instead, GES Coalition invites city leaders and the National Western Authority to the community-determined process of creating the plan and building the reality that Denver’s neighborhoods deserve.
